On 9 June 2024, Swiss voters the Federal Act on a Secure Electricity Supply from Renewable Energy Sources. Article 14a of this Federal Act, also historically known as “Mantelerlass”, states that firstly the storage facilities without final consumption are exempted from obligation of remunerating the local grid operator for using its grid. Practically, this means that, from January 2026, the storage facility owners will be reimbursed the “working” part of the renumeration of the grid operator at the time of injection of the electricity back to the grid.
Secondly, even for the storage systems with final consumption, a reimbursement corresponding to the quantity of electricity reinjected after withdrawal from the grid and storage.
This is an excellent news for these assets in Switzerland and would lead to higher dynamic in the storage market since the operation costs for the battery is lower and the yield is.
Contrary to the similar measure in the neighbouring countries, the validity of this new regulation is not limited in the time. This fact leads to predictability of the grid costs.
